Two weeks ago Bubba turned 4 years old. Two weeks ago we were in full on party mode and Bubba had the best day ever. At one point though, we were in panic mode and almost had to cancel his party. The night before Bubba’s big day, Mike was outside doing yard work in preparation for the party when he noticed a part of the yard was EXTREMELY wet!! As it turned out, we had a crack in the PVC pipe that comes to our house from the city’s line. The crack was right at the galvanized pipe that leads into our house. It was so bad, we had to shut off the water to the entire house to keep from flooding our yard.
Of course this would happen on a Friday after 5 p.m. I called a few places and no one had a plumber that could come out that night without paying a HUGE after hours fee. I called a well known national plumbing service, described in detail the exact problem we were having and they assured me that they would have a plumber here at our home before Bubba’s birthday party. To make a long story short, this nationally known plumbing service DROPPED THE BALL and we ended up calling the first plumbing service that came up during a Google search for our area. This company was AWESOME!! They sent someone out within 15 minutes of my call and they were able to fix our problem and SAVED the day for Bubba!
With this plumbing crisis averted, we moved forward with the party and it was so much FUN!! Bubba has become a fan of Paw Patrol so that was his party theme. Of course, when it came to the cake and all the sweet treats, I turned to my close friends Jennifer & Corie of Give Me Some Sugar. We brainstormed over cakes and I emailed her a few designs I liked to give her an idea of what I was looking for. I gave Jennifer complete control over the design because I absolutely love everything she does and she has never disappointed in her work. Corie made the cookies and they were the cutest cookies ever. I was really happy with how they turned out and they tasted AMAZING!
Next, I turned to my party supplier, Jennifer over at 3 Sweet Memories. She made labels for the treat bags and provided me with 16 oz. cups & straws for the party. I love her Esty shop! Please check her out she is great! I also ordered some really cute puppy paw stamps as party favors from Amazon along with treat bags that I put a bunch of goodies in for the kids. I made a run to Target and found the cutest Pencil Sets & Coloring Books that were Paw Patrol in the $1 section. Because I didn’t have time to make the decorations myself (I was studying for finals the week of the party) I went to Party City and was able to find all kinds of Paw Patrol decorations. This was a huge time saver because making decorations usually takes at least two weeks for me.
Because of the timing of the party and Bella having a soccer game that morning, we kept the food really simple. We ordered pizzas and I made fruit and veggie trays. Drinks were kept to a minimum too. We had lemonade, water and sweet tea. I try not to serve sodas if I can avoid it. Too much sugar was already being served and I am sure that the parents at the party appreciated that. The party was not too big, mostly family and a few close friends. We don’t do the bouncy houses and we don’t rent rides. We have a huge yard and a play area in the back yard.Aall the kids just ran around, played and we turned on our bubble machine, gave them sidewalk chalk and they were the happiest kids I have ever seen.
Bubba had the best time. He got to play with his cousins and friends and the adults had an opportunity to catch up. We don’t have big parties and there is absolutely nothing fancy about them but they are filled with laughter, love and smiling faces. The birthday boy was all smiles all day and that is all that matters. I was not going to let a little thing like a cracked water pipe ruin his special day. Turning 4 was a big deal for Bubba, he said he was now a big boy and not a baby. His words are so true. He isn’t a baby any longer but he’s still a baby to me.
